Accessibility and Accommodation

We are dedicated to providing an exceptional Festival experience for all patrons. Below is information about accessibility and accommodation services designed to support your visit, including parking, captioned performances, assisted listening devices, audio descriptions, ASL interpreted performances, sensory-friendly performances, and service animals policy.

Please inform the Ticket Office (800-PLAYTIX or 800-752-9849) when you purchase tickets if you need these or other services. All accommodations should be requested at least seven working days prior to attendance.

PARKING

Parking for those with disabilities is available on Shakespeare Lane and other areas noted on the maps located here. Shakespeare Lane provides the closest access for drop off and ramp entrances for the Randall L. Jones Theatre. Center Street/University Boulevard provides the closest drop off and ramp entrance for the Engelstad Shakespeare Theatre and the Anes Studio Theatre.

Contact the Ticket Office at 800-PLAYTIX (800-752-9849) to purchase wheelchair-accessible seating.

CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES

The Festival provides open open captioning for select performances, ensuring accessibility for patrons who are deaf, hard of hearing, or benefit from reading along with the performance. Open captioning displays the spoken dialogue, some sound effects, and other audio elements, such as music cues, on a visible screen near the stage, allowing all audience members to fully engage with the production.

Open captioning services will be available during the 2025 Season for:

  • The Importance of Being Earnest, Monday, August 18 at 2 pm
  • Macbeth, Monday, August 18 at 8 pm
  • Steel Magnolias, Tuesday, August 19 at 2 pm
  • Antony and Cleopatra, Tuesday, August 19 at 8 pm
  • The Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Wednesday, August 20 at 2 pm
  • As You Like It, Wednesday, August 20 at 8 pm
  • Dear Jack, Dear Louise, Thursday, August 21 at 2 pm

For assistance selecting appropriate seating or for additional information, email guestservices@bard.org or call the Ticket Office at 800-PLAYTIX (800-752-9849).

ASSISTED LISTENING DEVICES

Assisted listening devices are available at the Guest Services desk in all the theaters to support patrons with hearing needs. These devices can be obtained prior to each performance. Our staff is happy to assist with any questions or additional accommodations to support your theater experience.

AUDIO DESCRIPTIONS

Audio Descriptions are a form of accessibility service designed for individuals who are blind or visually-impaired. They provide a spoken narration of key visual elements during a performance, film, or event. For example, in a theater setting, the audio description might include details about the actors’ movements, facial expressions, costumes, and scenery during pauses in the dialogue. This narration helps visually-impaired patrons fully understand and enjoy the visual aspects of the production. Audio descriptions are often delivered through headsets or devices available at the venue.

Audio description services will be available during the 2025 Season for:

  • The Importance of Being Earnest, Monday, August 25 at 2 pm
  • Macbeth, Monday, August 25 at 8 pm
  • Steel Magnolias, Tuesday, August 26 at 2 pm
  • Antony and Cleopatra, Tuesday, August 26 at 8 pm
  • The Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Wednesday, August 27 at 2 pm
  • As You Like It, Wednesday, August 27 at 8 pm
  • Dear Jack, Dear Louise, Thursday, August 28 at 2 pm

For assistance selecting appropriate seating or for additional information, email guestservices@bard.org or call the Ticket Office at 800-PLAYTIX (800-752-9849).

SENSORY-FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES

We value the chance for everyone to experience the art of live theater in a positive and enriching way. These Sensory-Friendly performances are for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed theatergoing environment. This can include, but is not limited to, people with sensory sensitivities, anxiety, dementia, autism spectrum disorders, or learning differences or challenges. However, the performance is open to everyone! These performances include accommodations such as: house lights on at a low level throughout the performance; audience members are welcome to stand, move around, and enter and leave the theater as needed; sensory supports are available (fidgets, earplugs, etc.), and more.

The Utah Shakespeare Festival will present a Sensory-Friendly performance during the 2025 Season at a reduced ticket price for:

  • As You Like It, Wednesday, September 3 at 8 pm

Tickets will only available by calling the Ticket Office at 800-PLAYTIX (800-752-9849).

FOR VISITORS WITH SERVICE ANIMALS

Service Animals are welcome at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Service animals are limited to dogs by Federal Law. Emotional support animals and pets are not permitted.

Individuals with disabilities may be accompanied by their service animal at the Festival in any location where our guests are allowed to go. By law, a service animal means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks directly related to an individual’s disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not service animals.

For patrons attending performances with a service animal, please note: service animals are not permitted to block aisles as they may be used by the performing company. Service animals must also share a seat space with the patron. For safety purposes, patrons with service animals cannot be seated in the first row of the theatres.

For assistance in selecting appropriate seating and/or to make the Festival aware of your service animal’s presence during your visit, please contact the Ticket Office by emailing guestservices@bard.org or by calling 800-PLAYTIX (800-752-9849) within one week of your arrival.
