Thurgood is an acclaimed one-man play about the life of Thurgood Marshall, an American lawyer and civil rights activist who served as associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from October 1967 until October 1991. He was the Court’s first African-American justice. The preface to the plays says: “Thurgood Marshall was one of the defining American characters of the twentieth century. His story is heroic because he changed history, deploying the law like an army, challenging his country to live up to the principles upon which it was founded.”
